Although liquid crystals were discovered in the early 1900’s and the first active matrix LCD was produced in 1972, they have become commonplace over the last decade because of the rise of the laptop, or notebook, computer. Engineers now had access to an advanced display that used very little electricity and so was suitable for battery powered devices.

Loyalty Cards  
Most of us are familiar with affinity, loyalty, rewards or discount card programmes. Many major retailers and airlines operate such programmes to encourage repeat business and develop a database of customer demographic information. These programmes can be quite extensive, with millions of issued cards accepted in large numbers of outlets.
