Octagon’s network is comprised of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) smart screens and LED (Light Emitting Diode) signboards utilizing m-cast technology.

We constantly monitor developments in technology to ensure we have the most advanced technology available for our clients. OLED’s (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) are of particular interest because they allow the production of flexible screens that could be used on clothing, or other surfaces that are not flat. OLED’s are not viable at this moment due to high cost and short lifespan; however, they may become the future of digital displays.

Our News section will keep you updated on developments in this area.

M-cast   LCD

The m-cast technology allows Octagon to schedule, deliver and remotely update, high quality targeted media to the right audience, over a network of thousands of screens. The ability to collate data in real time provides quantifiable results that prove how effectively a campaign is progressing.

Although liquid crystals were discovered in the early 1900’s and the first active matrix LCD was produced in 1972, they have become commonplace over the last decade because of the rise of the laptop, or notebook, computer. Engineers now had access to an advanced display that used very little electricity and so was suitable for battery powered devices.

LED
LED’s were first discovered in the 1920’s although at the time much of this work was dismissed by the scientific community. Further development through the century lead to widespread usage of LED’s in everyday devices as warning lights or on/off.
